Born in Kolkata, raised in
Patna, Sharmistha Banerjee is an accomplished vocal artist. She has
performed in many cities in North America, Canada and India. She has
earned highest appreciation and compliments for her singing as well
as for her down to earth personality. Following her Guruji's foot
steps, Sharmistha maintains a very low profile.

For many years Sharmistha Banerjee was a regular vocal artist
for All India Radio, Patna.
She was a broadcasting artist for both 'Sugam
Sangeet'
(light music)' &
'Shashtriya
Sangeet' (Vocal classical). Sharmistha Banerjee is also a music composer.
Throughout her broadcasting years she has performed her own
music compositions for All India Radio.
Vocal Classical
Training: Encouraged by her parents who both were professors,
Sharmistha started her formal training in vocal classical
from Guru Shrimati Ruby Bhattacharya at a very tender age. After a
few years, she started receiving training from Guru Pt.Vindhya Prasad Gaur. Who is a
guru-bhai of Pt. V. G
Jog. She continued her training for many more years. Under his guidance she received
her 'Sangeet
Visharad’ degree in vocal classical.
Light
Classical Training: She has also gotten
an extensive training in light-classical Bengali songs from late Shri Prafulla Kumar Sengupta, who was a direct
disciple of Kazi Nazrul Islam. From late Shri Sukumar
Mitra, she had received training in 'Adhunik', Nazrul
Geeti and
'Puratani gaan'.
Academics: Sharmistha Banerjee has earned a Masters Degree in Economics.
Sharmistha has also studied Graphic Design Technology.
Social Services:
Sharmistha has been volunteering for Red Cross Society of
America for many years. She also lends her services as a
Bengali/Hindi language interpreter.
Sharmistha Banerjee is the
founder of ‘TARAANA MUSIC', Florida, USA. She offers vocal,
harmonium and keyboard lessons for all
ages on a regular basis. She also produces variety of cultural shows
throughout the year. Taraana Music is
growing and striving towards excellence in music education,
cultural productions while creating a
platform for local artists as well as those from outside.
