Born in Kolkata, raised in Patna, Sharmistha Banerjee is an accomplished vocal artist. Encouraged by her parents who both were professors of literature, Sharmistha started her formal training in vocal classical (Hindustani style) from Guru Shrimati Ruby Bhattacharya at a very tender age. After a few years, she started receiving training from Guru Pt.Vindhya Prasad Gaur. Who is a guru-bhai of Pt. V. G Jog. She continued her training for many more years. Under his guidance she received her Sangeet Visharad’ degree in vocal classical.

She is a highly popular and regarded artist of 'Nazrul Geeti'. She has received an extensive training in 'Nazrul Geeti' from late Shri Prafulla Kumar Sengupta, who was a direct disciple of legendary Bengali poet and composer, Kazi Nazrul Islam.

She had also received training in 'Adhunik' (mordern songs), 'Puratani gaan', and 'Nazrul Geeti' from late Shri Sukumar Mitra.

For 8 years, Sharmistha Banerjee was a vocal artist in All India Radio, Patna. She was a broadcasting artist for both 'Sugam Sangeet' (light muisc) & 'Shashtriya Sangeet' (Classical music). Sharmistha Banerjee is also a music composer. Throughout her broadcasting years she has performed her own composition for All India Radio. She was a guest artist in Voice Of America program as well.

In Music Education Sharmistha has earned prestigious Sangeet Visharad degree in vocal classical.

In Academic Education Sharmistha has earned a MS degree in Economics. Sharmistha is an accomplished graphic designer as well. In US she has studied Graphic Design, Art & Photography.

Sharmistha has performed in many prestigious music conferences throughout USA and Canada and earned highest appreciation and compliments. Currently she resides in Oldsmar, Florida with her husband and daughter.

Sharmistha Banerjee is the founder of ‘TARAANA MUSIC'. She produces many cultural variety shows throughout the year. Taraana Music' is growing and striving towards excellence in music education, producing variety shows and creating a platform for local artists as well as those from outside.
